Irene

Irene S. Fetherston has performed in symphony orchestras, chamber music groups, and as soloist in several places across the U.S. since 1980. Her musical programs have included music from Renaissance to Contemporary, from Monteverdi to Ellington, from Bach to Barry White, from solo recitals to Broadway musicals. While living in Ohio (1980 - 2022), her experience as an orchestral musician is wide-ranging, including the Trinity Chamber Orchestra (Associate Concertmaster), Akron and Canton Symphonies, Cleveland Ballet, Cleveland Opera, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Lyric Opera Cleveland, Ohio Light Opera (Concertmaster), and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.

Irene's first professional gig was Concertmaster of Albuquerque Civic Light Opera, in 1980, before matriculating at the Cleveland Institute of Music. While at CIM, she developed a taste for New Music, working closely with several student and faculty composers, and working as Assistant Director of the CIM Contemporary Music Ensemble. Since then, Ms. Fetherston has performed innumerable works of modern composers – a good number of which were world premieres. A sampling of her favorites: György Ligeti, Luciano Berio, Donald Erb, George Crumb, Forrest Covington, Christopher Morgan Loy.

Irene began teaching violin in Cleveland in about 1989, and has served as Adjunct Instructor of Music in violin at Kenyon College.

Before moving back to his hometown of Albuquerque, Irene was most recently a member of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, an Associate Musician with the Columbus Symphony, and Concertmaster of the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra. She also served as President of the Regional Orchestra Players’ Association from 2006 to 2007, and served in other positions in the Executive Board of that organization from 2001 to 2006.

Irene now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she teaches violin at the New Mexico School of Music, and also works from home as a computer programming consultant. She also holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Surgical Technology. Two cats, brother and sister Leo and Isobel, deign to live with her.
